As retold by Yiayia:
Papou and I, and Oliver in the back seat, were on our way to Aunt Jamie’s house for a Christmas gathering; Mom and Dad and Darwin were in the car far ahead. As we checked our iPhone maps to not get lost, Oliver volunteered to help direct us. He said “I don’t want to hurt your feelings, but I’ve done this many times, and I can help you find the way.” He proceeded to describe where Jamie’s house was located by comparing its location to that of an apple: down the stem (without any leaves) and then around the circle of the fruit to the bottom side.
And indeed, the two-dimensional road map with Jamie’s house down the street and on the far side of a ‘cul de sac’ was exactly comparable to the three dimensional layout of a stemmed apple. Wow! A mere five-and-a-half year old!
